Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening GreenvilleMany patients desire to whiten teeth that have been stained or darkened by food, tobacco use, injury or aging. Dr. Strausbaugh offers convenient solutions for those wishing to take the step towards a brighter, more beautiful smile using whitening agents. We offer supervised in-home whitening. The first step is to take an impression of the patient's mouth and from this we fabricate custom fit trays. At home the patient applies the whitening agent for 30 minutes to an hour, once or twice a day, for approximately two weeks.  The transformation will be quick and dramatic with few side effects.

One Visit Crowns

Technology today is changing our everyday lives. Many people aren\'t aware that technology is also impacting dentistry in new and exciting ways. Cutting-edge innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, causing less discomfort and creating satisfying results. One breakthrough instrument, called CEREC, allows dentists to quickly restore damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic fillings, saving patients time and inconvenience. There are over 10,000 CEREC providers in the united states and 25,000 world wide. This is the future of dentistry.

We are proud to have upgraded to the latest CEREC technological upgrade the CEREC AC. This new machine uses a new imaging camera: Blue LED for more accurate images and better resolution. That means more accurate and better fitting restorations for our patients.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is an acronym for Chair-side Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that a dentist can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How does the instrument work?

CEREC uses CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and milling machine in one instrument. A special camera is used to take an accurate picture of the tooth to be restored. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where Dr. Strausbaugh or his staff uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the new restoration is bonded to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process can be completed in a single visit.

What does this innovation mean for a patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more metal in the crowns causing black rings at the or unnatural opaque looking teeth discoloring smiles. The restoration is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take messy , impressions moulds that make you gag and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second and third visit may be eliminated. Crowns do not need to be returned to the Dental Lab due to a bad fit. The CEREC has over a decade of clinical research and documentation to support the technology. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective.

How can I find out if this is an option for me?

Feel free to call 864-233-1905 and ask us about CEREC. We will be happy to answer your questions about this exciting new technology

Composite Fillings

The back teeth are noticeable when we talk and especially when we laugh. Seeing dark, unsightly areas of metal can detract from an otherwise perfect set of teeth. Now there are fillings available that are specially designed to match the natural color of the tooth. These directly placed, bonded resin fillings can make a tooth look like new, whether they are used for small areas of decay or to replace current fillings.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a fantastic way to repair or enhance the appearance of front teeth. They can be used to whiten teeth, close spaces and create a great smile. Using veneers, we can even perform virtually "instant orthodontics" to straighten crooked teeth and give you the bright smile you always wanted.

  • Reduce or Eliminate Spaces Between the Teeth (Diastemas)
  • Repair Broken or Chipped Teeth
  • Whiten Dark, Yellow, Permanently-Stained or Discolored Teeth
  • Correct Misshapen or Crooked Teeth

Bite Problem / TMJ Therapy

TMJ Therapy GreenvilleThe teeth and jaw joints are part of a system of structures referred to as the masticatory system. Consisting of four parts (the teeth, gums, jaw muscles, and jaw joints), all parts of this system interact with each other part of the system. Breakdown may occur in these parts as a result of microbes (tooth decay, gingivitis) or excessive mechanical stress. Excessive mechanical stress may occur from outside trauma, such as an automobile accident, but more commonly occurs when the upper and lower teeth don't fit together where the jaw muscles best close the jaw. This condition defines a bite problem. It may result in damage to, or pain in, the teeth (worn, loose, or cracked teeth), the gums (receding gums), the jaw joint (jaw noise or pain) or the jaw muscles (headaches, sore jaws).

Treatment of this disorder should first be aimed at reducing the cause of the problem (mechanical stress) to a level which will prevent further structural damage or eliminate pain. Then, repair of damaged structures may be done. Depending upon the case, this may be accomplished by altering the bite, restoration of teeth or TMJ surgery.

TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders) Therapy

Do you have frequent headaches, limited jaw opening, facial pain, neck or shoulder pain, clenching or grinding? These are some of the signs and symptoms of Tempromandibular Disorder (TMD).

TMD Therapy GreenvilleDr. Strausbaugh studies at The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, the world's premier educational center for neuromuscular dentistry, has enabled him to treat TMD patients effectively.

With sophisticated technology and equipment, Dr. Strausbaugh can evaluate your bite and determine if your bite is a possible cause of your pain or condition. If so, he can then utilize a TENS unit to relax the muscles of your face and the muscles you chew with, to place your bite where your muscles are relaxed. An orthosis is a custom make appliance made of clear plastic that can be worn over the teeth to maintain this bite position and decrease or relieve you of the symptoms associated with TMD.

Dr. Strausbaugh would be happy to discuss with you any concerns you may have related to your bite or TMD. This complimentary appointment would be free of charge.

What is Neuromuscular Dentistry?

Neuromuscular dentistry is the science of using the relaxed position of the muscles of the head and neck to place the jaw in the optimal physiologic position for comfort and function. It is also used to find the optimal jaw position before restorative dentistry, which greatly increases the longevity of the restorations.

Symptoms of Neuromuscular conflicts

  • Frequent headaches
  • Neck, shoulder, back pain
  • Unexplained loose teeth
  • Teeth clenching or grinding
  • Numbness in arms and fingers
  • Pain or clicking and popping in joints
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Facial pain
  • Ringing or congestion in the ears
  • TMJ

How Does Neuromuscular Dentistry Differ From Traditional Dentistry?

Traditional dentistry looks only at the teeth and jaws, whereas neuro-muscular dentistry considers the muscles that control the jaws and the nerves that control the muscles, and how this relates to the overall body.

Identifying the Rest Position:

A neuromuscular dentist may use an electrical impulse device or TENS, on the muscles of your head and neck. This process not only relaxes the muscles, but also increases blood flow and flushes out toxins. After about 45 minutes of stimulation, your muscles will be relaxed and your jaw in the ideal relaxed position. This information is then recorded and used to fabricate an orthotic that will allow your jaw to close to this position. An orthotic is a clear appliance that sets in the mouth, over the teeth to even out your bite.   Most patients will wear their orthotic daily for approximately 3 - 6 months, during which time your bite becomes stabilized. With your bite stabilized in the optimal position, muscle activity diminishes which allows for muscle healing and alleviation of painful symptoms. Then the orthotic may be worn only at night.

How Long Does it Take?

After you have worn your orthotic for 3 - 6 consecutive months, you have options as how to proceed. You will make a decision to wear the orthotic indefinitely; have orthodontics done to move your teeth to this ideal position; and/or have one or two arches of teeth restored to adjust your bite to this position.

Partial & Complete Dentures

Patients who have lost their natural teeth due to decay, periodontal disease or injury can suffer from related problems including further decay, difficulty eating and speaking, and drooping of facial muscles. Full and partial dentures replace the missing teeth both aesthetically and functionally, providing support and restoring the smile. Full (complete) dentures are used when all of the natural teeth have been lost, while partial dentures fill in the gaps between natural teeth. The gums, dentures and any remaining natural teeth will need to be cleaned regularly to prevent staining, sores and plaque build-up.
